Calvin Orr, one of my favorite local glass artists, created this lyrical focal bead. The sandy-gold, cobalt blue and black surface colors have a silken quality, which reminded me of Japanese Kimono fabric. It is a bold freeform pattern, yet one can imagine stripes of tigers or bold tropical leaves in moonlight. Notice the magenta peeking out the edges, much like the bright underlayer of the Kimono. Frosty cobalt hex beads with an iris/magenta flush highlight multi-strands of glossy and matte 6/o Japanese and Czech seed beads. This is a princess length necklace, measuring approximately 17.5" with sterling silver Bali-style cones finished with Swarovski® crystals and a hammered sterling silver hook clasp.
